Q1: How do students register and enroll in a CourseCompass course?

A: After your instructor adopts a CourseCompass course, the student registration and enrollment process is as easy as 1-2-3! Before you register, ensure you have everything you need including a student access code, CourseCompass Course ID provided by your instructor and a valid email address.

  1. Students buy a CourseCompass Student Access Kit from the campus bookstore. The Student Access Kit contains the student access code and registration instructions either standalone or bundled with a textbook.

  2. Students go to http://www.coursecompass.com, and click the Register button for students. A page appears reminding students what is required to register. Be sure you have everything you need to register.

For more information, see the Getting Started section.

Q2: Do students always need an access code?

A: Yes. Each student needs an access code to set up an account in CourseCompass, with a login name and password, and to enroll for a course. After registering, students only need their login names and passwords to log in to CourseCompass and view course materials.

Students need a new access code for each course in which they want to enroll.

Q3: Can students share access codes?

A: No. A student's access code uniquely identifies that student during the registration process, at which time the student creates a unique login name/password combination for each access code. Students are then identified online by these combinations.

For example, when students work together online, CourseCompass includes their names in the messages and replies they send back and forth. In addition, CourseCompass tracks student performance in the gradebook according to unique login name/password combinations. You can see what confusion would be caused by two students sharing the same combination!

Q4: What happens if I lose my Student Access Kit?

A: These cards are valuable, just like a phone card or a key pass for a building. Students must replace lost access code cards by buying new ones.
