Q1: What is an eBook?

A: An eBook is an electronic version of a textbook. Pearson Education is developing eBook versions of hundreds of popular college-level textbooks in partnership with netLibrary, a leading provider of Internet-based content management services.

Q2: What are the benefits of using an eBook?

A: eBooks, available in CourseCompass for the first time in 2001, represent an enormous leap forward in the development of a flexible, easy-to-use online learning environment. Now you can truly integrate your content and course design with the textbook that forms the backbone of your course.

What can you do with an eBook? Here are some options:

  • Give students linked eBook reading assignments. The eBook is available to students whenever they have access to the Internet.

  • Include eBook references in assessment feedback. If students miss a question, they can click a link to reread the relevant material.

Use online tools, such as links and searching, to find material quickly in the eBook.

Q3: How do I know if there is an eBook for my course?

A: As you browse the course materials in order to create a course, you will see icons for each of the course components. If there is an eBook version of the textbook available, you will see the eBook icon. When you select that course material, CourseCompass includes the electronic textbook in the preloaded content of your new course.

You can also find out if an eBook is available by looking through the catalog for a Pearson Education imprint or by asking your local Pearson Education sales representative.

When you select course materials that include an eBook, you see a Books navigation button on your course pages. Clicking this button displays a TOC of the eBook.
