Welcome to CourseCompass: New features

The following new CourseCompass features are available summer 2004. Now, you can:

Enter foreign language characters to content in your CourseCompass course

Are you teaching or taking a foreign language course? If so, you can now easily enter foreign characters, such as Spanish or Italian accented characters, in CourseCompass by using the special character palette.

Instructors can select any of the following foreign language palettes: French, German, Italian and Spanish. To add or change the special character palette for your CourseCompass course:

From the course Control Panel, click the Settings link under Course Options
Click the Special Character Palette link
Choose the palette, French, German, Italian or Spanish to add to your course and click Submit.

The special character palette is available for most CourseCompass content, including the Course Home page, Announcements, Course Menu and Digital Drop Box. Additionally, the special character palette is available for the new multiple fill-in-the-blank assessments type.

Administer and take multiple fill-in-the-blank assessments

Multiple fill-in-the-blank assessments allow instructors to assess student progress in a new format. These fill-in-the-blanks assessments are simliar to paternmatch questions where students type in an answer to match a set of possible correct answers. Like other assessments, when students take the test, the grade is automatically entered in the CourseCompass online gradebook.

For instructors, multiple fill-in-the-blank assessments may be predeployed to a course content area, such as Assignments. Instructors can preview and change the visiblity settings of this content type, however, instructors are not able to author multiple fill-in-the-blank assessments.

Benefit from the new publisher-provided test repository

CourseCompass assessment enhancements include a new assessment infrastructure, grouping publisher-provided tests outside of your course. For some instructors, there will be no change to how you add or deploy tests. For other instructors, you will need to click the new "Add Publisher-Provided Test" button on the Test Manager page to view preloaded tests.

To view your course's preloaded assessments:

From the course Control Panel, click the Assessment/Test Manager.
The Test Manager page lists assessments already in your course, and if they are deployed, defines the content area where the assessment is deployed to.
To preview or add publisher-provided assessments, click the "Add Publisher-Provided Test" button on the Test Manager page.
A page appears listing all the publisher-provided tests that complement your textbook.
To add a test to your course's Assessment/Test Manager, simply place a checkmark next to each test you want to add, then click Submit.
Now you can modify the test or make it available for students to take.
